Purpose
College students often face many challenges that prevent them from being successful and performing at their best.
Students face issues such as:
* Anxiety
* Family expectations or problems.
* Depression, lack of motivation, low self-esteem.
* Relationship difficulties
* Stress, perfectionism, time management
* Lack of confidence, assertiveness, self-esteem
Delivery
Through this session, students will be equipped with tools and resources needed to improve and transform their lives in a way that allows them to perform at their highest peak.
Through poetry performances, team building exercises and guided discussions/self-expression activities- students will have a chance to engage in a deep level of introspection that consequently will allow them to grow in their academic, personal and professional life.
About the Speaker
Drekkia Writes
Drekkia Writes is a first generation high-school graduate and college student. Throughout her life she’s survived much adversity and trauma from being exposed to drugs and gun violence, losing 2 brothers to the federal/state penitentiary, a toxic relationship and low self-value. She overcame those struggles not only because of her resilience but because of the many people that positively sowed into her.
Drekkia Writes is now a
Master Trainer, published Author and an award winning Spoken Word Artist. She is the founder of Seven of Arts which is a creative based personal and professional development company.
She formerly served as the Arts in Education Program Manager for the state of Arkansas. Her background is in teaching Poetry and Creative Writing as a way to help modify behavior, address Social Emotional Learning and to help increase literacy/communication skills. She is a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas where she studied Business Administration, Insurance and Risk Management.
She is the founder of The Women’s Social Society- a women’s empowerment group and a radio personality on 96.5FM The Box.
Writes is passionate about education and currently serves as the Legislative Liaison on the Little Rock School District School Board. She has over 10 years of experience working with youth, women and corporations.
Writes is truly all things arts, education and mental health.
